The bi-weekly Long-COVID Support Group is a safe place for you to share and process your experience with others who are going through similar struggles. Many people suffering from Long-COVID feel invisible and forgotten, sometimes disbelieved or dismissed. The Long-COVID Support Group is a place for you to feel seen, heard, and validated.

Long-COVID, aka Post-Acute Sequelae SARS-COV2 Infection (PASC), aka Long-Haulers Syndrome, is estimated to impact anywhere between 7.7 - 23 million people in the United States alone. Despite the massive numbers of sufferers, very little is known from a concrete treatment perspective. While research is underway and the medical community has come far since March 2020, there is still maddeningly little for sufferers of Long-COVID to grasp onto as they desperately hope to regain the life and livelihood they enjoyed prior to their often-mild COVID-19 infection.

Since the early days, many groups have sprouted on Facebook, Reddit, and other social media sites filled with “Long Haulers” seeking support and crowd-sourcing advice from one another. It speaks to the longing for connection in an experience that can feel terrifying in its aloneness. While these groups are helpful, you may find yourself needing something a bit more personal and intimately supportive.

In a group of up to 6 participants, we will work together to alleviate that sense of isolation in a safe and supportive environment where your lived experience is acknowledged and validated. You’ll have the opportunity to share whatever you feel comfortable sharing and offer advice, encouragement, and respectful support to your fellow Long-Haulers.

Meet Cindy Kim, Licensed Psychotherapist, Your Group Facilitator

Throughout the pandemic, I’ve supported many clients in their emotional distress brought on by COVID, whether in relation to adjusting to drastic changes in lifestyle, affliction with the virus themselves, or dealing with the fear and anxiety of trying to avoid something that feels unavoidable. As it happens, my own family got the dreaded positive test back in March 2021. It started with my one-year old and spread to my other two children and husband. Fortunately, I was spared and I credit that to the fact that I was lucky enough to receive my two shots of the vaccine by that point. For the most part, everyone experienced a relatively mild case and it seemed that we may walk away from our bad luck mostly unscathed. But by week three, it started to become clear to my husband that things weren’t quite wrapping themselves up the way we were used to with previous colds and viruses. That was the beginning of our family’s journey with Long-COVID. My husband found himself bouncing from doctor to doctor, trying fruitlessly to find resolution for the debilitating brain fog, tinnitus, and chronic pain he weas experiencing. I have personal experience watching my loved one struggle through having lost parts of himself with no assurance that he may find those parts again. It has mostly been through the passage of time that things have improved in some ways and stalled in others. I’ve googled, read scientific journal abstracts, navigated a medical system marked more by its ignorance than its knowledge, waded through dubious information from supposed experts, and adjusted along with my family to a new way of life that includes the presence of a chronic illness. I know firsthand how few resources exist in the world to support individuals living with Long-COVID. I am hopeful that this group can help you to feel connected and supported by individuals who “get it.”
